Concrete and masonry surfaces
Cleaning the surface
1
|
Dirt, mold and layers of old paint can be easily removed from concrete and masonry surfaces with a high-pressure cleaner. Before you continue, make sure that the surface is completely dry. For additional cleaning use a scraper or a wire brush. For removing oil and grease stains use trisodium phosphate (TSP) which will prevent discoloration occurring. When the surface is dry, fill the holes and the cracks using a suitable scraper and filler. When this is completed, sand down the surfaces. |
Applying sealing and protective primers

|
If necessary, you can coat the clean and dry surface with a chosen primer coating. A sealent coating prevents penetration of moisture, and a protective primer is used to prepare the area before painting. |
Painting
3
|
Before painting, make sure that the selected layer of base coat is completely dry. Don't apply one thick layer. It is advisable to apply several thin layers of paint, in order to enhance its strength and durability. Allow the paint to dry for the time recommended by the manufacturer. |
If you haven't finished painting... don't worry, you can continue tomorrow.
Simply put your brushes and rollers in a plastic bag and wrap them well. Keep them for the next day in a cool place to prevent the paint drying out.
VOC Directive
Do you know that Slovenia, as a member of the European Union, has established a strict environmental legislation, a part of which is the VOC Directive (Volatile Organic Compounds) since 2004 on limiting the volatile organic compounds (VOC). In practice, this means that for its implementation we have to replace the organic solvents-based coatings with water-based coatings. The brushes from natural bristles are no longer very suitable for its application, a better choice are synthetic bristle brushes or a combination of both.
