Cleaning the tools
1
|
First, remove as much of the paint as possible.
Water-based paints: Oil-based paints and paints based on other solvents: If you use an oil-based color, follow the cleaning instructions given by the manufacturer. Pour the solvent into a container (e.g., a glass jar) clean the brush or roller by dipping it into the solvent and shake until the color is removed. Repeat to remove any remaining paint. Dry the brush or roller with a paper towel. Important! Solvents are flammable and toxic therefore always use solvent-based paints in a well-ventilated area! |
Drying and storage of tools

Brushes need to be dried and wrapped in a cloth or stored in the original packaging, then the brush will keep its original shape for future use. Rollers are best hung to retain their shape and the fibers will not get crushed. Store house painting tools in a dry place (e.g., in a garage or similar). Important! Any waste from cleaning should be treated as potentially hazardous and must be disposed of and handled in the same way as paints. |
If you haven't finished painting... don't worry, you can continue tomorrow.
Simply put your brushes and rollers in a plastic bag and wrap them well. Keep them for the next day in a cool place to prevent the paint drying out.
VOC Directive
Do you know that Slovenia, as a member of the European Union, has established a strict environmental legislation, a part of which is the VOC Directive (Volatile Organic Compounds) since 2004 on limiting the volatile organic compounds (VOC). In practice, this means that for its implementation we have to replace the organic solvents-based coatings with water-based coatings. The brushes from natural bristles are no longer very suitable for its application, a better choice are synthetic bristle brushes or a combination of both.
