Walls and ceilings
Protection of floors, furniture, other equipment and installation
1
|
Before the start of painting protect the flooring, furniture, doors and windows and other objects and installations that you wish to keep clean, with foil or commodities and protective tape. Be especially careful to protect decorative trims, door frames, windows etc. It is better to spend half an hour more protecting furniture than later cleaning it or even repairing the damage. Clean and prepare the surfaces you want to paint and if necessary use scrapers with a suitable filler to fill the holes and cracks. We recommend painting the following day. |
Cleaning the surfaces
2
|
Before applying any core or base coat on the wall or ceiling make sure that the surface is clean, dry and free from grease stains. Remove all "children's art work", pay particular attention to wax crayons and remnants of adhesive tape. Prepare medium coarse plaster manually with wire brush, as rubbing with sandpaper will show. Clean smooth polished surfaces with sandpaper. |
Filling the holes and cracks

|
On the walls and ceilings, there are often holes and cracks that should be repaired. It is important that the inside of the hole is larger than the exterior, as this way the filler will firmly fill the hole and will not fall out. Before applying the filler thoroughly clean the holes or cracks, for example with a vacuum cleaner. Moisten the holes with a damp sponge, so the filler readily attaches to the surface. Apply the filler with a flexible scraper. When the surface is dry, sand down with sandpaper until it's smooth and even, use a wire brush for rough plaster. |
Always begin with painting the ceilings

|
If you want to paint the ceilings and the walls, always start with the ceilings. This way you will avoid paint drips and splashes that could damage the freshly painted surfaces. After you finish painting the ceiling, continue with the walls and finally paint the windows, doors and radiators. |
Painting the walls

Always paint the walls one by one. Use the brush to paint the borders along the ceiling and floor, but do not paint more than two to three meters at once. Then apply a coat with a roller on a whole wall. Dip the roller into the paint tray so that the roller is immersed to 1/3 and then roll out the paint onto the paint grid. Repeat this at least three times. Apply primer to the wall in larger quantities and then roll out the paint in all directions evenly across the wall. Using the same technique, continue painting the walls. |
If you haven't finished painting... don't worry, you can continue tomorrow.
Simply put your brushes and rollers in a plastic bag and wrap them well. Keep them for the next day in a cool place to prevent the paint drying out.
VOC Directive
Do you know that Slovenia, as a member of the European Union, has established a strict environmental legislation, a part of which is the VOC Directive (Volatile Organic Compounds) since 2004 on limiting the volatile organic compounds (VOC). In practice, this means that for its implementation we have to replace the organic solvents-based coatings with water-based coatings. The brushes from natural bristles are no longer very suitable for its application, a better choice are synthetic bristle brushes or a combination of both.
