Preparing the surface
1
|
Before painting remove handles, latches and hinges. If they can't be removed, protect them with protective tape. Fill the holes and the cracks with filler (wood or epoxy kit). Remove the old paint with sand paper or chemical color remover. Smooth rough edges if there are any, and sand off grease stains. Wipe of the dust with a damp cloth. When the surface is ready for painting, protect the surrounding area with foil or protective tape and start painting. |
Painting

Start by painting the edges and corners, then continue painting the larger surfaces. If the doors are flat, you can paint them with a roller. For painting edges which are close to the glass, it is best to use a narrow painting brush. You can simply remove excess paint from the glass with a cloth, wrapped around a paint scraper. If the paint has already dried, just the scraper can be used. |
If you haven't finished painting... don't worry, you can continue tomorrow.
Simply put your brushes and rollers in a plastic bag and wrap them well. Keep them for the next day in a cool place to prevent the paint drying out.
VOC Directive
Do you know that Slovenia, as a member of the European Union, has established a strict environmental legislation, a part of which is the VOC Directive (Volatile Organic Compounds) since 2004 on limiting the volatile organic compounds (VOC). In practice, this means that for its implementation we have to replace the organic solvents-based coatings with water-based coatings. The brushes from natural bristles are no longer very suitable for its application, a better choice are synthetic bristle brushes or a combination of both.
